Once again, the girls living in the hostel of this well resourced institution that has enjoyed a great prestige in India are emotionally upset. Earlier, the school was closed for a few days after the girl had allegedly committed suicide.
The Ex-Raists, on their Facebook page have written the comments like: "What's happening in my school?"; "Something is wrong with the management"; and "The school has gone to dogs," indicative of their concern for the school.
However, one of them wrote, "Please do not speak bad of the school," thereby indicating that there is a need for positive and optimistic attitude and pushing for school reforms.
Not only in this school, a spate of suicides by girls in their teens, has been witnessed in the last few months in other schools in and around Delhi. This is a great cause of worry and there is a need to reflect and correct the both the academic and psycho-social environment of schools so that children come to school for the joy of learning and acquire life skills to understand their potentials and the school dons the role to help them in realising their potentials.
I would suggest that the ERA members must take the initiative to request the school management and staff for a review discussion and freshly envision the school practices to embark on the journey of from being good to getting great.
